Don't Let the Sun Age You!

Now that the summer heat is in full effect, most of us are using SPF on a regular basis to protect from sunburns at the pool or beach.  But have you ever thought about the ultraviolet rays that you come in contact with on a daily basis year round?  Consider this exaple from the New England Journal of Medicine:

The New England Journal of Medicine has published this shocking photo of a 69 year-old man with unilateral dermatoheliosis -- severe damage from ultraviolet rays on one side of his face.

The unnamed man, who gave permission for his photo to be used in new stories, told researchers that had driven a delivery truck for 28 years.

Ultraviolet A (UVA) had penetrated the window glass, damaging the outermost layers and sublayers of his skin.

For years I’ve preached about these damaging rays to women and men of all ages. I’ve gone to elementary schools to teach 4th & 5th graders about skin care and sun protection, and I share this simple line:

UVA = You be aging

UVB = You be burning

I hope those simple phrases along with the truck drivers face encourage you to wear sun protection anytime you are outside, in your car, or in an area with lots of windows including your home or office.

The American Skin Care Association recommends a minum of SPF 30+ for medium skin tones and SPF 45+ for lighter tones.  Wearing a higher SPF is encouraged.  Remember the highest number is the highest amount of protection you are wearing.  Example: SPF 15 + SPF 15 = SPF 15 not 30.

Here are a few SPF options for you to consider from Sephora: Face & Body Sunscreen.  If you prefer all natural sun protection, here's a list from Amazon: All Natural Sunscreen.

I hope all of you fasionistas rock a fabulous sun hat & cheers to keeping wrinkles at bay while keeping you & your family safe.

Sharing is caring, so please pass our blog along & also connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, &

Until next time dolls!

Love, Jules
