Last year, I heard about this thing called dry brushing, but hadn’t really thought about it again. Recently, I have been seeing all sorts of articles and increasing popularity of dry brushing, so I thought I would address some of the facts.

- Dry brushing is the practice of rubbing your body in circular motions with a soft, natural bristle brush, starting from the heels and fingers and working towards your heart. This is done before a shower or bath (hence the word dry).

- Many resources claim that dry brushing has many benefits, such as increased blood circulation (leading to increased energy), increased lymph circulation (boosting the immune system), reduced appearance of cellulite, higher functioning nervous system, detoxification, and exfoliation.

- Although I have not been able to find any research studies confirming most of these benefits, many people swear that dry brushing makes them feel much better, and some people claim it helps shed some weight.

- The one benefit that can be confirmed is exfoliation. Dry brushing reduces dead skin cell buildup, leaving behind smoother skin. Moisturizing after will help make the skin extra soft.

- After regular dry brushing, I personally have noticed a lessened appearance of keratosis pilaris, a very common condition that manifests as small white or red bumps on the upper arms or thighs. Very common for both men and women.

Is dry brushing all it’s cracked up to be? I can’t be sure. But until there is sufficient proof one way or the other, it certainly isn’t hurting anything. At the very least, it can help you achieve smooth, soft skin. An assortment of brushes suitable or dry brushing are available on Amazon. So brush away!

I've been getting a lot of questions about BB Creams, so let's hit the highlights of this magic cream!

What does BB even mean and what does it do?

"BB" stands for "blemish balm" or "beauty balm" which is a all-in-one skin cream, foundation, & concealer. It was developed in Germany for patients who were having skin procedures or laser treatments. Korean beauty companies took the BB creams to the next level by making it super affordable and effective.

BB creams work just like a tinted moisturizer and many have SPF in the formulations. You can find some with heavier coverage that can take the place of foundation.

Benefits of the BB:

It's a multi-tasking moisturizing primer that makes your skin look flawless instantly. It moisturize, primes, perfects, controls oil, and protects your skin from free radicals. Formulated with emollients and optical pearl pigments, a glow or dewy look. They also help to maintain moisture on the surface of the skin for a smooth appearance.

Should I jump on the BB bandwagon?

Most men/women in the US have fallen in love with this product, and chances are you will too!

This is a great option is you aren't a fan of "makeup" or if you only use a tinted moisturizer.

It's great for oily-combination skin types since it controls oil as well.

Save steps in your makeup routine!

Many women feel their skin is more radiant and in better condition after using the BB creams over time.

Reasons you may not love it:

Since this was geared towards Asian women, the color range is very small. Finding your perfect shade may be difficult if you aren't "beige". Smashbox offers 5 shades ranging from light to dark. Clinique has 3 shades ranging from very fair to medium.

If you have drier skin, this may not provide enough moisture for you.

BB Creams Brands:

International sites include Sasa.com, GMarket.com, and iMomoko.com. Korean cosmetic brand, Etude House, is US friendly. Popular brands of BB creams include BRTC, Dr. Jart, Skin79, and Missha.

You can also find a few brands on Sephora

You can find all brands on Amazon for the fastest comparison shopping!

Going to the beach isn’t the time to look perfect. In fact, it’s expected to look a little “dewy” (a.k.a. sweaty!) and unkempt. In light of my upcoming beach trip, I thought I would give you a few tips for how to wear makeup at the beach.

- Start with SPF. If you’re going to be in the sun all day, you definitely want to protect your skin. Depending on the coverage you are looking for, you can use sunscreen, tinted moisturizer, or beauty balm. Make sure you choose an oil-free, non-comedogenic product, and use at least 30 SPF but feel free to go up to 50-100 SPF from Aveeno. Don’t forget to reapply your sunscreen and wear a sun hat.

- Add a little powder. A matte face would look unnatural at the beach, so go easy. If you need a little extra coverage or you’re really oily, you can use something in your shade. You can also use a bronzer. Choose a bronzer in your skin tone range without shimmer to look more natural, and dust it just on the forehead, nose, chin, and cheekbones. As an added bonus, you can get a powder with SPF and use to refresh throughout the day.

- A touch of blush. Dust a light pink on the apples of your cheeks.

- Swipe on mascara. Choose a lengthening waterproof formula and use a coat or two on your upper lashes to look defined, but natural. Curl your lashes first for extra oomph!

- Love your lips. Lips take a beating in the sun, so protect them with a lip balm with SPF. If you want a little color and can’t find a tinted SPF balm, dap a little lipstick over your balm and rub your lips together.

- Spritz it. Mist yourself with a makeup setting spray before you head out. (Rose water is an easy choice!) This is important, because it will set your makeup, but it will also make your powder look more dewy and natural. You can carry it with you in the cooler and refresh your makeup (and yourself!) throughout the day.

For your hair:

- Brush it, because there probably won’t be any brushing for the rest of the day.

- Get it slightly damp. Run your hands under the faucet and then through your hair.

- Use a fair amount of spray gel and scrunch between your fingers.

- Braids are always beach friendly and so on trend!

Now you can head to the beach!

Love, Jordan

When I was starting Dollface, I knew my brides were going to hold a special place in my heart. Not only am I a fan of L.O.V.E., but also I'm a firm believer that your wedding day should be one of the most special days of your life! What many people, brides-to-be included, don't realize is that the day starts way before she ever walks down the aisle. This leads me to a story of the "spark" that ignited my passion for making the getting-ready part on the wedding day a momentous party!

I remember seeing a bride years ago at the mall makeup counter with her veil on. There was also a local prom happening that evening, so she wasn't too happy since the counter was full of girls from the prom crowd. She didn't really get much attention since the counter was busy. High school girls were walking up and asking the artist questions while the bride was having her makeup done. It was pretty overwhelming even for me to look for a new lip gloss.

Something about this girl sitting with her veil on, in the mall, on her wedding day, really stuck with me. I didn't even know her, but I wanted to give her some personal attention and love on her a little bit! (For those of you who haven't met me yet, I'm a hugger.) I continued to think about her and how I could make that situation better. And don't get me wrong; if you are totally okay with going to the mall on your wedding day to get your makeup done, there is nothing wrong with that! But my thought was for the girl who didn't want to be there and wanted to have one-on-one star treatment on her big day.

I was new to Savannah, and I was starting to book a couple of brides here and there. So I decided to try to create an experience for my upcoming brides. I'm proud to say that April 2012 marked our 4th bridal season, and we continue to strive for creating a fantastic and customized experience to set the best tone on the wedding day. We create a fun, relaxed environment for our dolls while we pamper the entire party. And don't forget that when you hop down from our fancy director's chair, you are a vision. On your special day, I believe you should look and feel the best you possibly can. That way the rest of your day feels like the icing on... your wedding cake!

We all know what that means. It’s time for shorts, flip flops, and swimsuits. If you’re like me, with fair skin that burns at the thought of stepping into the sunlight, this blog is for you.

Self-tanners really aren’t the enemy! Most of us have had a bad experience with one before.

You rub it on as soon as you buy it and hope for a gorgeous glowing tan, only to realize a few hours later that you look like a streaky Oompa Loompa. From now on, follow these steps before self-tanning.

1. Don’t try it immediately - Plan on a day about a week away to actually apply your tanner.

2. Exfoliate - Exfoliating removes all those nasty dead skin cells, creating a smooth, even canvas for your tanner. You should exfoliate once a day for at least a week leading up to the day you plan to tan yourself. Don’t forget your knees, Achilles, and the rough areas on the tops of your toes, as well as elbows and other rough areas you may be planning to tan. If you have sensitive skin, only use an abrasive exfoliant every other day. Use a washcloth or loofah on the days in-between.

3. Moisturize - Just as important as exfoliating, you want your skin to be hydrated before you lay your tanner down. If your skin is dry, it can create that uneven, patchy look because certain dry areas “suck up” the tanner more than other areas. Again, be sure to really hydrate those knees, ankles, toes, and any other rough areas every day for the week leading up to tanning. Basically, you shouldn’t have a rough patch on you by the end of the week. You can use lotion, body oil, or aloe vera gel!

4. Shaving - The day before you plan to tan, you can go ahead and shave. You can shave earlier in the week if you want, but you don’t want to shave the day of or the day after tanning. Shaving just before or after you self-tan will remove the top layer of skin, which is where those pigments adhere. Note: Don’t shave anything you wouldn’t normally shave! Just wanted to be clear.

5. Tanning - D-Day! It’s tanner time. Exfoliate and moisturize. Slather up your moisturizer on those normally rough areas. I recommend aloe vera gel for all over moisture, with lotion just on the rough areas. Use unscented, basic lotion. Apply Vaseline to your cuticles and nails to protect them from staining.

Now you can apply! I recommend using a mini foam roller or foam mitt to get an even finish. Always apply the tanner on the large areas, like your shins and calves, and use the excess to sweep over your feet and knees.

If you messed up and find streaks later, just exfoliate those areas ASAP. You can always reapply later.

Now paint your toes a hot coral and go rock your (not so sunkissed) tan!

Self-Tanner Recommendations:

I always recommend a gradual tanner. I like the Jergen’s Natural Glow Foaming Daily Moisturizer.

If you really want immediate color, go with a foam, spray, or gel. These are all good choices.

Makeup tips: Apply concealer with a brush to undereyes, blend with a damp sponge and set with translucent powder using the same damp sponge. Brush away that excess powder and voila - you've got flawless, creaseless undereyes! Lift concealer from Make Up Forever is pretty awesome & found at Sephora.

When trying to highlight your eye color, you can either use similar colors or contrasting colors. Using contrasting colors (across from your color on the color wheel) will enhance and brighten your eye color. Using similar colors will make them bright, but not especially “popped”.

Find your eye color below:

Blue eyes:

Contrasting colors: orange, gold, yellow, brown, peach, pink

Similar colors: green, blue

Green eyes:

Contrasting colors: purple, rose, grey, gold

Similar colors: blue, green

Brown eyes:

Contrasting colors: blue, green, pink, peach, purple

Similar color: bronze

When it comes to using eyeshadow in the same color as your eyes, make sure to choose a shade that doesn’t match your eye color exactly. Contrast is what will make your eyes pop!

Pinks and reddish shadows can make eyes look brighter, but use caution! They can also make you look sick. To avoid your shadow looking like irritation, use shimmer colors as opposed to matte, and don't extend the color along the bottom lid.

Don’t forget that these are guidelines, not rules! You can wear whatever colors you want - just be confident in wearing them!

Here are some pictures to help you find a look you like.

Happy coloring, dolls!

Did you break your blush but not ready to toss it? Empty the leftovers it into a container with a lid. Continue breaking the blush with the end of a screwdriver until it becomes a loose powder free from chunks. Apply the powder to your cheeks or mix with Vaseline for a cream blush.

You can also slowly add a small amount of alcohol to the powder until it becomes a paste. Let it sit overnight. When the alcohol evaporates, tah-da!, your blush, bronzer, or eye shadow is back to life!

Brows & Lashes:

Need a brow brush or lash separator? Love an amazing mascara wand so much you don't want to part ways yet? Try cleaning your old mascara wand with 90%+ alcohol. You can also use the clean wand to tame your brows or comb and separate lashes after applying your new mascara. This trick will help eliminate any clumps.

Eyeliner:

Have an eye shadow you don't dare use on your entire eyelid? Dip an angled or liner brush into water or mixing medium, then into the shadow. Brush the color across the lash line for a new liner with some kick! This is a great way to slowly introduce bold colors into your everyday makeup.
