Makeup Classes, Not Just for the Professionals

I’ve been a working Makeup Artist (MUA) for over 16 years now.  I love applying makeup and making my clients feel like enhanced versions of themselves.  My goal for 2013 has been to bring education to the woman who isn’t sure what to do.  My focus has been to help as many women as possible by encouraging, inspiring, and empowering. It’s way more than just makeup to me. My passion is to use my talents to help women who want to know more. Most tell me they tend to skip out on makeup because they simply don’t know what to do with it and/or they don’t have the time.  Hearing those answers over and over again ignited a new fire in me to teach my craft to the everyday woman.

Photo by Cedric SmithCurrently, I have 3 Makeup Artists that I train and mentor.  I’ve been actively training aspiring artists to the professional level for a few years now and during this time I learned even more about my processes and how to explain it to others.  This has been a fantastic training ground in pushing myself to become a better artist and teacher.  I attend Pro-level training classes throughout the year to stay on top of trends and techniques, all while keeping myself fresh and focused.  I learn from the best of the best in the industry to keep myself growing.  I’m a certified makeup nerd. Seriously, I can geek out over what to use and how to mix up something new. So what does all of this mean for you?

Ask yourself, have you ever walked into Ulta or Sephora and have found yourself completely lost in an overwhelming sea of products and/or sales people?  It can be pretty intimidating when all you needed was a new lip gloss!  You may even walk out with a bag filled with products that you don’t even remember what magic miracle they are supposed to do or how to use half of what you bought.  Well you aren’t alone.  Most women don’t have a MUA they can turn to for personalized answers that actually help!  But what if you did? What if you had someone who could answer questions about defining your brows to flatter your eye shape or how to apply makeup in under ten minutes? Wouldn’t it be nice to have the fear taken away and replace it with confidence? Well let’s make it happen!

I want to hear from you. Yes, YOU!  Comment below and tell me what makeup or skin challenges you have currently.  I’m creating classes right now for all of the issues you may be facing including changing skin, acne/redness, lessening the appearance of wrinkles. You tell me what you are having trouble with and I will incorporate the answers in to a class or workshop especially for you.  I can’t wait to hear from you!

The Dollface Double-take for Halloween!

They say imitation is the highest form of flattery. Normally this statement annoys me from the view of being original. My beauty counterpart, the incredible Lindsay Nix, made me a true believer by surprising me with my very own parody! The moment she opened the door to greet us, I was in a complete stage of shock & awe! There “I” stood before me with all the finishing details perfectly in place. Lindsay even worked with my husband, Josh, to add personal touches.

What made this so incredibly flattering and truly the highest complement, was the attention to detail. Josh & Lindsay did not disappoint! They designed my makeup look complete with tattoo coverage using Temptu’s Body Camo. Lindsay is very fair… seriously… I think the proper shade is translucent. She transformed herself from her usual porcelain princess into a Puerto Rican Dollface!

We are like peas & carrots, the best of friends, & it’s always “peanutbutta jelly time”. We are typically laughing until it hurts or working on our master plan of taking over the beauty world. She is also the BEST in the hair biz with the track record to prove it. She also knows her way around a makeup kit. With that being said, no one else could’ve pulled off the feat of becoming “Dollface”.

From the extra large set bag (which looks like a gigantic fanny pack), art brushes, a feather fascinator, & my preferred ¾ sleeve shirt. Lindsay even worked with fab designer & our dear friend, Brooke Atwood, to create a custom made vest, which has become a signature part of our brand. She used my makeup, paying very close attention to every nuance, and completely nailed it!

Lindsay is also one of the most genuine people you will ever meet with the biggest heart. She gave me a priceless gift, and I’m sure I’ll continue to giggle about it for years to come!

Thank you, Lindsay! I love you <3

Anne Hathaway's Red Lipstick in Batman!

I have tried my very best to do research for the "look breakdown" for Anne Hathaway's red lipstick from the new batman movie.  Not one face chart or recommendation has hit the internet, only guesstimations.  I'm adding my own interpretation to pot for one of the orginal Dollface brides from 2009 named, Lilah.

The color combination I chose is from Nars (!):

Lip Liner in Jungle Red $22, described as "classic red" + Pure Matte Lipstick in Resuvio $25, describled as a full bodied red.  I have both in my kit & absolutely adore them!  First line your lips and feather in the lips.  Add the matte lipstick over for the WOW punch! I hope this help you in finding your ravishing red! <3- Jules

Sneak Peeks: Part 1

Team Dollface has been very busy since late February working with top photographers, fantastic models, & our upcoming makeup line "Jules".  We completed 10 full photo shoots and are now in the long process of sorting over 12,000 images with more on the way!  We'll be showcasing each shoot on our fab new website that is coming soon.  In the meantime, I wanted to give you guys a little taste of what we're working on. Thank you for your patience while we are under construction.  We are very excited to finally get the new site completed.

Below are a few sneaks of my work from a few of the shoots.  I'll do a follow up blog with more models and photographers!  Our very talented artist, Jordan, was along side me creating her own amazing looks.  You can see some of the magic she created here: Jordan's Gallery.  Jordan is also now available for 2012 bookings and weddings!

The photos below can be found on our Facebook fan page (please Like!) and on our Pinterest board, please follow &
